UE Leadership Awards 2012

The University of Evansville 19th Annual Leadership Awards were held last night, April 18, 2012.

One of the great honors presented at the Leadership Awards is the Grand Alpha.  Each year the Greek Life advisor selects a student, students or student organization to receive the Grand Alpha award for their contributions to the entire Greek Life community.

This year the Grand Alpha Award was presented to Katie Pejka of Alpha Omicron Pi.  Here is an excerpt from the award presentation.

"Exceed the Expectation. That’s the tag line for 2012 Grand Alpha recipient’s sorority, Alpha Omicron Pi. This year’s recipient is being honored for doing just that…exceeding the expectation of her office...I was truly impressed by the initiative, creativity, and determination shown by this woman’s leadership. During her term of office as the Vice President of Operations for the Panhellenic Council, Katie Pejka took the initiative to suggest that the Panhellenic Council create a financial survey for all sororities on campus to better understand the financial commitment UE women were putting into their sorority membership. Katie worked diligently and thoughtfully to craft the survey. She collected data from 166 women, nearly half of the community. Compiled the data into chapter specific reports, to better aid the organizations in understanding how their members pay their dues, what benefits they perceive to receive from their money spent and how they felt about the potential for a Panhellenic women’s scholarship. Nowhere in the VP of Operations job description does it say, “survey members,” but Katie saw and opportunity to educate the Panhellenic community and jumped on it. At the end of her term of office in December, Katie remained involved in the Panhellenic community by being appointed by her chapter to represent them on the Panhellenic Exploratory Committee. Because of Katie’s contributions to the entire Panhellenic community, it is my great honor to present her with the 2012 Grand Alpha Award. Please join me in congratulating Katie Pejka."
