Meet Delta Omega Zeta, UE's Local Sorority!

If you’re reading this, you probably know about the wonderful things that Greek life has to offer, but I’d like to tell you about yet another option available to you if you’re a woman that’s looking to go Greek. My name is Amanda, and I’m the president for Delta Omega Zeta, the University of Evansville’s one and only local sorority. You may be wondering what a local sorority is. What makes us different from other Greek organizations, and what do we have in common? I’ll answer those questions for you, and I’ll tell you what we can offer you and what you can expect should you decide to go through our recruitment and become a member.
First of all, being a “local” sorority means that we’re the only chapter of Delta Omega Zeta there is. We only exist here on U of E’s campus. That results in a few key differences:
1.       We don’t have a national organization that governs us. Our constitution and rules are our own, and we have the option of changing and amending them when necessary.
2.       Our recruitment is separate and very different from your typical sorority recruitment. Compared with national sorority recruitment, ours is less formal; we have an open house, craft night, game night, and a formal dinner.
3.       We can afford lower dues. Because we don’t pay dues to a national organization, our dues are the lowest of any of the social Greek organizations.
4.       We have our own house! The other sororities have suites which are like common areas where they have events like meetings and recruitment. We have meetings and part of our recruitment at our house, which 5 members can live in each semester.

5.       We’re a lot smaller. DOZ consists of about 15-25 members, depending on the semester and the size of our recruitment. Being so much smaller means that you really get to know each of your sisters. I can honestly say that I have a genuine and close friendship with each and every member of my organization.
However, local and national organizations are more alike than different. We participate in all the same campus events, like Greek Week. We hold philanthropies to raise money for charity, like our re-enactment of The Price is Right which benefits the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. We also participate in service projects, like a recent one at the Children’s Museum of Evansville and campus-wide projects each semester like National Make a Difference Day. We also have mixers with other Greek organizations, annual formals and semi-formals, sisterhood events, and high civic and academic standards.
Joining DOZ was the best decision I’ve ever made. Before I came to school, I was staunchly against going Greek, but I’m glad I changed my mind. I have found not only great friends, but sisters who will stand with me throughout our lives. Not only have I grown a great deal socially, but I’ve also found some of the most valuable leadership opportunities through my organization. By my second semester in the organization, I already had a position as sisterhood chair; I planned and coordinated sisterhood events which served to help us bond more as sisters. I went on to be sisterhood chair again, then vice president of membership, and now president. I have grown as a leader, as a citizen, and as a friend and sister. The opportunities for growth (and fun!) are endless. I hope you’ll give Greek life a try and see for yourself, and I hope to see you at our recruitment! Our recruitment dates are below, and you should feel free to email me if you have any questions at ab472@evansville.edu.
Recruitment Dates:
Monday, August 27th - Barbecue and Open House, DOZ House*, 5-7pm
Tuesday, August 28th - Craft Night, SOBA 271, 7-9pm
Wednesday, August 29th - Game Night, Morton/Brentano Pit, 7-9pm
Thursday, August 30th - Spaghetti Dinner/Formal Recruitment, DOZ House*, 5-7pm
*Our house is located near the corner of Weinbach and Lincoln. We’re next door to the TKE house and have a blue and yellow sign out front that’s hard to miss.

Hi y’all! I hadn’t really thought about going Greek until I transferred to UE in the spring of my freshman year, but after talking to my older brother who had been in a fraternity here, I decided to go through recruitment and give it a shot. It was hands-down the best decision of my entire college career.

Since I joined a sorority I’ve gained relationships and memories that I will cherish for the rest of my life. It really is a home away from home, and a place that you can turn to no matter what. I’ve also had so many opportunities that I would never have had if I hadn’t gone Greek, whether it’s the chance to step up and be a leader in my own chapter or to volunteer and give back to the world in ways that I couldn’t have alone.

I can’t wait to meet y’all and share the UE Greek life experience!

Name: Taylor
Year: Junior
Major: Nursing
Hometown: Kokomo, IN

Hey ya’ll, welcome to the UE family! My name is Taylor and I am an only child. When I chose to go through recruitment my freshmen year, it was better than expected. My mom and I are best friends and having her supporting me made my decision even easier. I was able to find a home away from home and sisters to help me become a better me! I joined Greek life because throughout high school I was involved in leadership roles and wanted to be able to make a difference in my college community. Becoming a Gamma Chi is another way for me to reach out a helping hand and build up our Greek community. I am also an Orientation Leader (OL) here at the University of Evansville, so I can't wait to meet everyone!

Name: Hannah
Year: Senior
Major: Neuroscience and Psychology
Hometown: small town in Indiana in the Cincinnati, OH tri-state area

Before I came to college, I knew absolutely nothing about Greek life and I really didn't think it would be something I would be interested in. In fact, when it came to choosing between UE and the other school I was deciding between, part of the reason I choose UE was because Greek life was such a big part of the other school and a very large percent of students were Greek and I did not think it was for me. That all began to change during Welcome Week when I started to learn about the Greek community here at UE. I realized that maybe I should go through recruitment, if for nothing else than to meet people. I very quickly realized that joining a sorority here meant that I could find my home away from home. I am so glad that I joined the Greek community here. I have met a lot of people that have made my years at UE truly the best years of my life so far!

One of the aspects of Greek life I love most is the opportunity to serve as a recruitment counselor or Gamma Chi during recruitment. This is my second year as a recruitment counselor and I truly look forward to helping a wonderful new group of women find their own home away from home!

Recruitment is Just 3 Weeks Away!

Recruitment is just weeks away and everyone on campus is getting excited.  So here's another round of introductions to the Panhellenic Recruitment Team!  Each one is ready to help you learn about campus and Greek Life.  So please take a moment to get to know more of our team!

Name: Kelsey
Year: Senior
Major: Public Relations/Advertising
Hometown: Byron, MI

Hey everyone! Going Greek was not something that I thought I would ever do, but it was one of the best decisions that I ever made in college. Not only did it give me a family away from home - which was great because I live 9 hours away- but it gave me so many opportunities to do things that I otherwise wouldn't have. Greek life on campus is just so much fun to be a part of. The philanthropy events as well as other community service around Evansville are a fun way to give back. Being in a Sorority has made me more confident in myself as a leader and just as a person. I hope Greek Life changes your life as much as it did mine!

I can't wait to meet you all in the fall!

Name: Amber
Year: Senior
Major: Exercise and Sports Science/ Physical Therapy Assistant
Hometown: Indianapolis, IN

Hello! My name is Amber and I am Panhellenic President. I am also involved in other campus organizations such as Admissions Ambassadors, PTA club, and EXSS club. I decided to come to UE because of the small class sizes and the PTA program.

Initially, I had no interest in going Greek however, being 4 hours away from my family and friends was tough. I was looking for a new group of friends and decided to see what going Greek was all about. I met a lot of really amazing women from all affiliations but when I started to get the know the women in my sorority, I instantly knew that was where I belonged. I found a place I could truly be my self and grow into the person I am meant to be. Being Greek at UE is more than just having fun. It is about getting involved on campus, giving back to the community, and making amazing memories along the way. I have gained so much more from UE Greek Life than I ever thought I would.

My parents were nervous when I first told them I wanted to go Greek however, they supported my decision. Now that they see how amazing UE Greek Life is, they agree it is one of the best decisions I have ever made. Being Greek has made my time at UE unforgettable and I am excited for you to have the same experience! I can not wait to me you all!

Name: Jenna Heinrich
Year: Junior
Major: Interdisciplinary Studies (Psychology and Spanish) DPT
Hometown: Naperville, IL

Hi, I'm Jenna and I'm the Panhellenic Vice President of Operations.  When people ask me why I went Greek and why I stay Greek, I tell them about everything I have gained from my membership.   Going through recruitment as a freshman, I was looking for my second home, a place to put down roots in this new town and school so far from home. I most certainly found that true sisterhood and so much more in the UE Greek community. My sisters both in my chapter and others inspire me to be the very best version of myself everyday. In UE Greek life I have found a place where I can find balance between academics, philanthropy, and all other aspects of college life. Being a part of UE Greek life has not only given me some of my best friends and the ability to be well-rounded, but has also given me the tools I need to be a leader both during my time at UE and after.

Another round of Introductions!

Move in is just 2 weeks away and that means the start of the school year and recruitment, are almost here!

Want to meet more of our fabulous recruitment team?  Of course you do!

Name: Samantha
Major: Elementary education and minor: Special education
Year: Junior
Hometown: Oshkosh, WI

When I came to Evansville I didn't know anyone. My entire family was 10 hours away and all of my friends were scattered across the nation at different colleges and universities. Before college I hadn't thought about going Greek because no one in my family had gone Greek. When I finally got to school everyone kept asking me if I was going through recruitment or not. Originally I was just going to go through to meet some of the other freshman girls, but after the first night of recruitment I decided joining a sorority was something I really wanted to do. After I had decided it was something I wanted to do I had to talk to my parents about how they felt and if they would help me pay for it. I was very fortunate that my parents agreed to pay half of every years dues and with the money I had saved from my summer job I was able to pay the other half. Now that I've been part of my sorority for the past 2 years and taken some leadership positions I can honestly say that going through recruitment was one of the best decisions I've made.

Name: Kate B.
Major: Theatre Technology and Design
Year: Senior
Hometown: Lexington, KY

Hi! My name is Kate and I participate in greek life on UE's campus for multiple reasons!  I choose to go Greek because of the friends and networking connections I have made and the multitude of opportunities I get to experience; sorority and fraternity formals, socials, cook-outs, and road-trips! Greek life is more than just the letters you wear, but rather a tie to a higher purpose. Not only does Greek life on campus encourage philanthropy and self-improvement in the here and now, but each chapter provides an admirable creed of which each individual may adapt and focus their lives and career goals to the best they can be. I have experienced this connection in all of my summer internships and could not be more grateful and happy to be a part of a system that truly nurtures a student from teenager to young adult.

Name: Kate S.
Major: Global Business and Spanish
Year: Senior
Hometown: Rochester, IN

Hola! My name is Kate and I am in charge of sorority recruitment this year. I came to UE for the study abroad opportunities and the ability to dual major, but I got so much more when I decided to go Greek!

Coming from a small town 5 hours away I had actually heard quite a bit about Greek life and I wanted to get involved. I heard it was a great way to volunteer and meet people. What I found is Greek life at UE is like nothing you can imagine or read about, it is truly something you have to experience for yourself! We are such a small community that it is really easy to know everyone and develop strong ties with people from your organization and others. Many of my best friends are in different sororities or not Greek at all. UE also has all the aspects of big school Greek life with lots of community service, leadership and scholarship opportunities as well as chapters that win awards on a national level. My parents were nervous for me to join at first, but now that they have seen all the amazing work I have been able to do in the community they couldn't be happier to support me and my chapter.

UE Greek life is such as great experience I wouldn't change it for the world. It has given me so many opportunities from lifelong friendships to leadership positions to internships. I can't wait to meet all of you this fall and let you know what Greek life has to offer!!

P.S. You'll probably be seeing a lot of me on campus, so feel free to ask questions if you have any :)

Name: Amy
Year: Senior
Major: Exercise Science, minor in Psychology
Hometown: Columbus, IN

Hi! I'm Amy.  I'm a senior at UE and I am hoping to head to an Occupational therapy graduate school after I graduate in the spring. I am a member of the Exercise Science club and try to attend Student Christian Fellowship when I can.

Greek life was not something I thought I would be a part of when I first started at UE. I decided to go ahead and see what Greek life was all about by going through recruitment. I feel in love with the idea of having a support system away from home. My family had just moved from Charleston, South Carolina to Columbus, Indiana only about two weeks before I started at UE, so I was really far away from any familiar faces. Greek life became my home away from home. It helped give me a better sense of self and confident outlook on life.  This is my second year being a Gamma Chi and I am so thrilled to be able to help each of you! See you in August!

Name: Lindsey
Year: Senior
Major: Clinical Psychology
Hometown: Muskegon, MI

Hi!  When I first got to campus,  I could tell that being eight hours away from home was going to be hard for me.  I really needed to find a family away from home.  I found the family I was looking for in UE’s Greek life. I was lucky enough to have enormous support from my family to go Greek which made the whole process that much more rewarding.

My school family is not just composed of women from my chapter, but individuals from every Greek organization on campus. When I tell people now that I used to be shy they tend to start laughing because it is the opposite of what I am now. Through Greek life I have grown to be more confident and a better leader. With the support of my sisters I have found opportunities to be a leader at the University as a Student Government Association representative and the President of UE’s Student Activities Board and Lead Activities Mentor for the Freshman Edge Program. I honestly believe that going Greek was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I cannot imagine not being part of UE’s Greek Life. I am excited to meet each of you in the fall.

Name: Kourtney
Year: Junior
Major: Psychology
Hometown: Vincennes, IN

Hello, everyone! Here is a little bit about why Greek life interested me when I first came to UE. Outside of Greek Life, I am active in College Mentors for Kids where I serve as Vice President and Circle K. Being Greek also gave me other leadership opportunities, and that was one reason why Greek Life intrigued me. On campus, I quickly saw how involved every member of UE Greek Life was on campus.

Greek Life also interested me for a couple of other reasons. Before I came to UE, I saw how my brother was involved in Greek Life on his campus and how much he enjoyed it. Because of this, I thought Greek Life might be something I would enjoy too. And I was right! The biggest reason I went Greek at UE was because my twin sister and I decided to go to different schools and this was the first time we really had been apart. Joining a sorority gave me plenty of sisters that I could count on for anything. Being Greek at UE has allowed me to meet so many amazing young men and women, and I hope you choose to join UE Greek Life as well!

Summer break?

Most students look fondly to summer as a time for rest and relaxation but really summer is one of the busiest times for Greeks!  Between jobs, internships, recruitment preparations and extra classes there is little time for rest.  But the real highlight of a Greek student leader's summer may just be Convention or Leadership training.  This summer six of the ten national organizations represented at UE will be hosting a Convention.  Conventions traditionally occur ever two years and are the largest legistrative meetings of the Fraternity or Sorority.

The first convention is kicking off today, just "down the road" from UE in Louisville, KY.  We wish all our friends in Zeta Tau Alpha a fun and productive Convention!

Here's a run down of all the conventions taking place this summer:
Zeta Tau Alpha: June 27-July 1 in Lousiville, KY
Phi Mu: July 4-7 in San Antonio, TX
Chi Omega: July 11-15 in Phoenix, AZ
Phi Kappa Tau: July 25-29 in Nashville, TN
Lambda Chi Alpha: July 26-29 in Phoenix, AZ
Phi Gamma Delta: August 2-5 in New Orleans, LA

Many of our members will also be attending summer leadership programs and we wish them all the best!

Are you attending a Convention or leadership program this summer? If so we want to hear about it! Send us your stories and pictures to uegreeklife@gmail.com and you just might be profiled in an upcoming Blog!

Another round of Introductions!

It takes a large team of women to make recruitment a success.  We're back to introduce you to more of our AMAZING recruitment team!  Here's a look as a few more Gamma Chi's!

Name: Michaela
Year: Junior
Major: Health Services Administration with minors in Music and Public Health
Hometown: a teeny-tiny town in Eastern Kentucky

Hello future Aces! I actually had quite a few reasons for going Greek. Many of my older friends were going Greek when they went away to college and one of my close friends suggested I do the same because he understood what an awesome, fulfilling experience it is. So, I attended a Greek Life info session with my mother on a whim during SOAR, and she convinced me that signing up would be a great way for me to meet new people and make friends, since I'm pretty far away from home. I was also really shy when I started college and I thought joining a sorority would help me break out of my shell.

I love being Greek! Joining a sorority was exactly what I needed. Over the past two years, I have become more outgoing and I've been given so many opportunities to succeed and become a campus leader. I know so many people on campus now, both Greek and unaffiliated, and it's definitely made living far away from home nine months out of the year much easier (and a lot more fun!). Because I have become a member of a strong women's organization, I am surrounded by people who are supportive and urge me to strive for excellence, not only in my leadership abilities, but in my everyday life, too.  I can't wait to see you in the fall!

Name: Jenna Huebel
Year: Junior
Major: Special Education
Hometown: Columbus, IN
Hi I'm Jenna and I chose Greek life for a chance to make new friends and have a great college experience, what I found in UE Greek life was so much more. I found some of the best of friends, leadership options, social activities, and life long sisters. I am the first of my family to join Greek life so my parents were worried about me joining. I talked to them about the type of friends I'd be making, and all the oppurnitiues I would have and they felt better about it. When my parents finally met my sisters and saw how happy I was within my sorority they couldn't be happier of the choice I made to join UE greek life.

I look forward to meeting you when school starts!

Name: Jenna W.
Year: Senior
Major: Psychology
Hometown: St. Louis, MO

Hi, I'm Jenna and before coming to college I had no strong desire to join a sorority. But when I met various Greek girls during my UE Road Trip visit, I began to learn a lot about sororities and fraternities, changing my mind. I got to watch a philanthropy event and see how many friends my road trip hosts had. They looked like they were a part of campus and I then knew I could feel that way too if I came to UE and went Greek.

I was very nervous going through recruitment but it was a good experience that helped me find my place. Being Greek encouraged me to get involved and once I got settled, I was inspired to do more. I volunteered more often, joined the Psychology honors program, became a DJ for WUEV, joined the BiSci club, and strove for leadership positions, allowing me to be on the Panhellenic executive board. Being Greek gave me a great support system that helped me expand my personality and interests and do well in school. I know that I will always have a sister if I need a study buddy, advice, or just a friend. I hope you all choose to experience Greek Life. See you all in the Fall!

Meet Your Recruitment Counselors!

Panhellenic formal recruitment kicks off in 79 Days!

One of the great benefits of sorority formal recruitment is the recruitment counselor program.  Our recruitment counselors are called Gamma Chi's.

A Gamma Chi is a current sorority women who has chosen to disaffiliate herself from her organization for the recruitment period so she can help you!  Gamma chi's are mentors, unbiased resources of information, confidants and friends!  Each woman who signs up for recruitment will be assigned to a Gamma Chi group with approximately 8-10 other women.
So now we'd like to introduce you to some of our 2012 Gamma Chi's

Name: Ariana
Year: Junior
Major: Legal Studies
Hometown: Newburgh, IN

Hello, everyone! My name is Ariana, and here’s a little bit about how and why I joined Greek Life at UE.

My mother was Greek at Purdue and encouraged me to join Greek Life to meet people. She knew the many benefits of joining: making friends, networking with alum, gaining leadership experience, and participating in philanthropic activities. She even understood that sororities differ from campus to campus and wanted me to join the one I liked rather than the one she belonged to.

What I wanted from Greek Life was to meet people, and going through recruitment was the best opportunity to do so. I met so many people during the process before I even became a member of a sorority! And now I know a bulk of campus, men and women, Greek and unaffiliated. Seeing those faces daily makes me feel a sense of belonging on campus.

I had a difficult time at the beginning of my freshman year. Starting off new is hard ‑ you miss you family and old friends, not having to share a bathroom with 25 other people, and your mom’s cooking. But the best advice I can give is to encourage you to join Greek Life. You find a home away from home, friends who share your values, and a place to thrive during your time at UE.

Can’t wait to see you in the fall!

Name: Shelby
Year: Junior
Major: Double major in Creative Writing and International Studies with a minor in French.
Hometown: Tampa, FL

I'm from Tampa, Florida and when I came to UE I didn't know anyone yet so I decided to go through formal recruitment because I didn't know very much about it, but the idea of it reminded me of my group of friends back home.

The women I met in my sorority were excited to have me join and I haven't regretted it since. I continue to be active in Greek Life because of the valuable friendships I have made, not just in my sorority, but in Greek life as a whole. We are all very different individuals but we all seek the same support from one another in order to achieve our goals. I am also involved in Newman Club and serve as the Co-President.

My family had their concerns about me joining a sorority, because I am the first in my family to go Greek, but they have seen me grow in confidence, responsibility, and leadership and are proud of the woman that I have become through Greek Life.

Name: Sarah
Year: Senior
Major: Secondary Social Studies Education
Hometown: Indianapolis, IN

Hi! I'm Sarah! I am involved in multiple campus organizations. I currently serve on the Indiana Student Education Association (Vice President), as an Admissions Ambassador, and am involved in Student Government. My involvement in Greek Life gave me confidence to participate and succeed in these other campus activities. I absolutely love being Greek. I was advised to participate in Recruitment because, whether or not I decided to join a chapter, it provided an opportunity to meet other freshman and upperclassmen. My participation turned out to be my entry into Greek Life.  I have gained a support system and family away from home, that continues to enhance my education as I grow into the woman I wanted to become.

We've got many more Gamma Chi's to introduce you to, so check back often throughout the summer!

And don't forget...to register for Recruitment please visit our website at greeklife.evansville.edu/recruitment and click on the link for Interactive Collegiate Solutions!

It's Great to be Greek at UE!

If you are fortunate enough to be a member of one of UE's eleven Greek life organizations, then what I'm about to tell you is no surprise...it's Great to be Greek at UE!  If you're getting ready to head to Evansville this fall then I encourage you to examine the many benefits of UE Greek Life!

We're about Leadership! UE Greeks participate in many other campus student organizations and take on leadership roles inside and outside the Greek Community.  SGA, Athletics, Student Activities Board, National Society for Leadership and Success, Students in Leadership, UE Leadership Academy and many more all count Greek students as members and many are in leadership roles.

We're about Scholarship! The All Greek GPA has been above a 3.0 since before 1996.  In Spring 2012 10 out of 11 organizations have a GPA above a 3.0 and our community averages were well above the all-student averages.  Now that is something to be proud of!
All Greek-Female: 3.3
All Greek-3.25
All Female Student: 3.18
All Greek-Male: 3.16
All Student: 3.04
All Male Student: 2.84

We're about Service & Philanthropy!  In 2011-2012 the UE Greek Community raised $52, 727.40 for local and national philanthropic causes.  We also completed 11, 638.5 hours of community service this year.

We're about Social Interaction!  One of the best parts of UE Greek Life are the opportunities to meet new people.  From Welcome Week Initiatives to Homecoming, to Musical Madness, Greek Week, and Intramurasl, there are a ton of opportunities to make new friends and strengthen the relationships you already have.  Plus there are the always fun date parties, formals and semi-formals and mixers as well!

We're about Lifelong Brotherhood and Sisterhood! When you join a fraternity or sorority you are not just joining a student organization, you are joining an international family.  Fraternity and sorority membership is a lifetime commitment with lifelong benefits.  In the end these relationships are strongest because they are based on shared values that are reaffirmed through a shared ritual.

UE Leadership Awards 2012

The University of Evansville 19th Annual Leadership Awards were held last night, April 18, 2012.

One of the great honors presented at the Leadership Awards is the Grand Alpha.  Each year the Greek Life advisor selects a student, students or student organization to receive the Grand Alpha award for their contributions to the entire Greek Life community.

This year the Grand Alpha Award was presented to Katie Pejka of Alpha Omicron Pi.  Here is an excerpt from the award presentation.

"Exceed the Expectation. That’s the tag line for 2012 Grand Alpha recipient’s sorority, Alpha Omicron Pi. This year’s recipient is being honored for doing just that…exceeding the expectation of her office...I was truly impressed by the initiative, creativity, and determination shown by this woman’s leadership. During her term of office as the Vice President of Operations for the Panhellenic Council, Katie Pejka took the initiative to suggest that the Panhellenic Council create a financial survey for all sororities on campus to better understand the financial commitment UE women were putting into their sorority membership. Katie worked diligently and thoughtfully to craft the survey. She collected data from 166 women, nearly half of the community. Compiled the data into chapter specific reports, to better aid the organizations in understanding how their members pay their dues, what benefits they perceive to receive from their money spent and how they felt about the potential for a Panhellenic women’s scholarship. Nowhere in the VP of Operations job description does it say, “survey members,” but Katie saw and opportunity to educate the Panhellenic community and jumped on it. At the end of her term of office in December, Katie remained involved in the Panhellenic community by being appointed by her chapter to represent them on the Panhellenic Exploratory Committee. Because of Katie’s contributions to the entire Panhellenic community, it is my great honor to present her with the 2012 Grand Alpha Award. Please join me in congratulating Katie Pejka."
Greek Advisor, Cara Fabrocini and Grand Alpha Award Winner, Katie Pejka

Many other Greek students were also recognized last night including:

Sethlyn Morgan (Alpha Omicron Pi)-Class of 1927 Golden Anniversary Award- Schroeder Family School of Business
Kelsi Schluter- Toyota Leadership Scholarship
Zeke Willey (Phi Kappa Tau) -Student Congress Member of the Year and SGA Vision Award
Carson Brock (Sigma Phi Epsilon) - SGA Vision Award
Colin Gray (Lambda Chi Alpha) - Ralph H. Coleman Scholar Student Athlete Award

Our congratulations go out to all the award recipient's!

On Friday our theme was Community Service and Philanthropy!
Individual members of every organization were eligible to sign up for a one hour spot to volunteer at several agencies around town.  We had volunteers at the American Red Cross, Holly's House, Potter's Wheel Ministries, the Human Society, and the AIDS Resource Group.  Organizations were also eligible to coordinate their own events and receive credit if they provided documentation to the IGC co-chairs.  In total 288 students volunteered on Friday!

Friday was also the end of the Greek God and Goddess competition.  God and Goddesses collected $1041. 59 for the American Red Cross Heroes Campaign.  More the half of which ($525.97)  was collected by Greek Goddess 2012 Annie Vincelett from Zeta Tau Alpha!  Our congratulations also go out to Kyle Gesell of Sigma Phi Epsilon who collected $162.60 to earn the Greek God 2012 award.

Greek Week: Wednesday Recap

Wednesday's theme was Social Interaction!  For our event, we played in a softball tournament against USI Greek Life, who is also hosting their Greek Week this week.

The Softball Tournament was comprised of two men's games and one women's game.  We also hosted a cookout for both universities to enjoy!

UE won the women's game and won one of the two men's games, leaving the final score UE-2, USI-1!

Way to go Aces!!

The softball games allowed our Greek members to get to know each other better, as each team was made up of representatives from multiple Greek organizations, but it was also a great way to meet new people and hang out with friends!

Tonight's theme is Scholarship and our event is Quiz Bowl at 6:30pm in Eykamp Hall!  Come cheer on your brothers and sisters as they compete head to head in this fun trivia contest.

Lastly, we still have community service opportunities available on Friday.  Please click here to sign up and be sure to complete the waiver on WebAdvisor!

Greek Week 2012: Tuesday Recap

Tuesday was Lifelong Brotherhood/Sisterhood day and we celebrated with The 5 Pillar Challenge and Field Games!

Field events included: Tug-a-War, Bubble Blow, Three Legged Race, Relay Race/Dizzy Bat, Sponge Bucket Relay and Corn Hole.

Despite the bubble gums refusal to blow bubbles all events went off really well.  And even though the temperature was in the low 40's the sponge bucket relay proved to be an exciting event.

The 5 Pillar Challenge was a new addition this year.  Each chapter was asked to send four representatives at an assigned meeting time to answer a question.  The question was a two parter: What are the 5 Pillars of Excellence and how does your chapter exhibit these values, provide examples?

This year's Greek Week theme is the 5 Pillars of Excellence.  Each day's events represent one value.  The Inter-Greek Council hopes these events highlight what our community is all about...leadership, brotherhood/sisterhood, social interaction,  scholarship and community service/philanthropy.

Today's theme is Social Interaction and our event is a softball tournament versus USI Greek Life.  There will be 3 games playing simultaneously tonight (3 fraternity games and 1 sorority game).  We'll also be cooking out throughout the games.  There will be hamburgers, hotdogs and veggie options!  So be sure to come out and support your brothers and sisters playing in the games, have some dinner, and maybe even meet some new friends!  Points will be awarded for attendance and player participation.

USI is providing transportation from their main campus to the Sofball fields.   Buses will run from the PAC to the fields from 6:00pm to 7:00pm and then 30 minutes after the games have ended. Parking on USI's campus does not require a parking pass. When you pull onto the main boulevard on campus, drive straight through the round-about and park in lot A, B or C on the left.  USI council representatives will be around, in their Greek Week Shirt to help people find the bus etc.

If your students decide to leave before the end of the games, you can walk back to campus along a bike path.  However the path is not well lite and its about 1 mile.  So we ask that you go with a small group.

Finally, USI is a smoke-free campus, this includes their outdoor fields.  Please do not smoke at the games.

Remember to Tweet about the week using the hashtag #UEGreekWeek!
